Need of community

We live in a family. There are many families around ours. All the families live in peace and harmony. They form a community. So, the community is a group of people living together in an area. There is live and friendship among them. They help one another. They are united.

Man is a social animal. He cannot live alone. Community is necessary. Whether we are rich or poor, strong or weak, we need the community. Even hermits and ascetics have to depend on the community. No one can live without community. We need many things in life. Life will be difficult without them. It is the community that provides these things. We cannot live in a lonely place. We need people to live with and to talk to. We want people to share our joys and sorrows with. It is the community that satisfies this need. Secondly, we need food, house, clothes and many things and services. 

  We cannot do all these things ourselves. People of different occupations live in the community. We get their help. Farmers grow food for us. Weavers weave cloth and tailors sew clothes for us. Builders make houses for us. Similarly, barbers, washer men, teachers, doctors etc pro-vide valuable services. Thirdly, we learn many good qualities in the community. We learn love, sympathy, kindness and co-operation. 

Man is selfish. But in the community, he gives up his selfishness for the good of people. He sacrifices his interest and becomes benevolent. He donates for schools, hospitals, libraries, temples, bridges etc. in addition to this, he learns arts and skills. Fourthly, the community is a place of practical knowledge. A man learns customs and traditions. This makes him social. He can make adjustment in the community. Fifthly, he gates protection and security in the community. There are many kinds of danger in life. There are wild animals, thieves, robbers and terrorists. If a man is alone, he cannot face them. Community life makes him powerful. The people in the community protect his life and wealth. Thus we see that the community plays a very important role in the life of a person.
