We have been following certain evil practices like the dowry system, spending a lot of money in festivals like Dashin, Tihar, etc. and performing ceremonies like marriage, ‘pasni’, ‘Bratabandha’ etc. with a great pomp. Many people do this by borrowing money from others. They cannot repay the debt even after working throughout the year. In the villages, the rich people take undue advantage from such things. They give loans to the poor people, charge a high rate of interest and the poor people can never recover the debt. Ultimately, they have to leave the village giving their house and land to the landlord who occupies their property. Wearing gold ornaments beyond their capacity by women is another practice in our society. This gives an economic burden to their husbands. Similarly, there are many people in town areas who want to show off by copying others who have a bery high standard of living. For those who can afford, it is easy. But those who have limited source of income cannot cope with the high standard.
